Erik & Simone: When a wedding becomes a village celebration

There are weddings you remember for their beauty. Others for their elegance. Still others for their impeccable organization.
And then there are weddings like Erik and Simone's, which you remember because they touch you.
As a wedding planner in Maremma, Tuscany, I often organize destination weddings immersed in nature, among hills, vineyards, and grand estates. But this wedding was different. It wasn't just the wedding of a special couple. It was the wedding of an entire town.

Organizing a friend's wedding: the most beautiful and difficult part

Erik and Simone weren't just two spouses. They were friends.
And those who work in my profession know how delicate it is to organize the wedding of people you truly care about. Because when you work with clients, you give your all. But when you work with friends... you want everything to be perfect in an almost personal way.
You want to protect them from unexpected events even before they happen. You want every moment to live up to what they represent. You want them to feel loved, welcomed, and free to truly live their day.
And perhaps this was the greatest gift of the entire planning process: during those intense months, we got to know each other even better. We shared ideas, doubts, endless phone calls, laughter, site visits, and dreams. And the wedding became an authentic reflection of who they are: genuine, deeply connected to the land and its people.

An authentic wedding in a village in the Maremma Toscana

The couple's desire was clear from the beginning: they wanted a wedding in a village, not simply "set" in a village.
They wanted the village to be alive. For their guests to experience the authenticity of the Maremma Toscana. For the locals to be part of the day. For there to be no clear boundary between the event and real life.
And this is precisely one of the directions I love most in my work as a wedding planner in the Maremma Toscana: bringing weddings back to small towns, historic centers, and truly lived-in places.

Getting married on the town's main street

The official civil ceremony took place on the main street of the historic center.
A detail that many don't know is that some Italian municipalities, through specific ordinances, can recognize certain areas as "Town Hall," thus allowing official civil weddings to be celebrated outside of the traditional council chamber.
And that's exactly what happened here, thanks to the Municipality of Gavorrano.
This possibility opens up wonderful possibilities for those dreaming of an authentic Tuscan wedding: getting married among the ancient stones of a village, under the windows of the houses, in the very heart of the town.
The street was set up with elegant yet simple seating, perfectly integrated with the atmosphere of the village. And while the guests took their seats, the residents looked out of the windows, observing, smiling, and making emotional comments.
Some even took to the streets to wish the newlyweds a happy birthday.
And at a certain point, it was impossible to tell who was a guest and who was a resident. Because that wedding truly belonged to everyone.

Theater, the "citti," and the soul of the village

Erik and Simone have always had a strong connection with theater and the artistic world. That's why they wanted to include a special moment during the ceremony, created with some actor friends.
And it was one of the most moving and authentic moments of the entire day.
The actors recreated a typical scene from village life: some elderly ladies sitting outside their homes, headscarves on their heads, talking about the "citti"—as the village kids are affectionately called.
They talked about the wedding as they once did. With curiosity, irony, and affection. Because that's still the way it is in small villages: when someone gets married, the whole village experiences it as a collective event.
"Did you know that Gina's children are getting married?" "Well, look how time flies..." "You'll see how many people come..." "They'll remember this party for years."
It was theater, yes. But it was also incredibly real.
Because in the villages of Tuscany, life still works like this: everyone knows everything about everyone else, and there's something profoundly human about this.

Aperitif in the historic center: when the wedding meets the community

After the ceremony, the historic center transformed into a large, open-air aperitif.
Guests mingled with residents, glasses were raised in the alleys and squares, music filled the streets, and the town seemed to celebrate together.
This is the kind of experience I love to create as a destination wedding planner in Tuscany: weddings that don't feel like events "dropped down from above," but moments perfectly integrated with the local area.
The group photo taken with a drone in front of the village church concluded one of the most beautiful moments of the day: a photograph full of people, smiles, and a sense of belonging.

The Logistical Challenge of Village Weddings

Many think that organizing a wedding in a historic village is impossible.
The narrow streets. The limited access. The difficult parking. The residents. The loading and unloading. The technical management.
The truth is, it's not impossible. It takes organization. It takes dialogue. It takes experience. And it takes truly capable suppliers.
As a Tuscan wedding planner, I deeply believe in the project of bringing weddings back to the authentic villages of the Maremma. Because these places have a soul that no built venue can replicate.
Of course, the logistics aren't easy. But when you work with trained teams and people who truly love the area, you can create extraordinary things.
With kind words, respect for those who live there, and precise planning, even what seems complicated becomes possible.
And this is precisely where the true value of a wedding planner emerges: transforming invisible complexities into seamless and natural experiences for the bride and groom and guests.

A true, heartfelt, shared celebration

After the aperitif, the guests moved to a characteristic farmhouse nestled in the countryside, where the cuisine had the authentic flavor of Tuscan family dinners.
Simple dishes yet full of character. Long tables. Nonstop laughter. Impromptu dancing. People truly united.
It wasn't just Erik and Simone's celebration.
It was the celebration of a town. Of a community. Of an authentic way of experiencing weddings.
And this is why I continue to believe so much in weddings in Maremma Tuscany: because here, emotions aren't fabricated. They really happen.
